Here is a promo for the soap opera Coronation Street. This promo is for the rape trial, being shown at the end of January. This promo is a follow on to the episode of Coronation Street that I analysed a while back, where the initial rape actually happened. Before analysing this promo, I have created a Visual Timeline as a brief way of summing up the whole advertisement. Here is another Coronation street promo full of lies, cheating and scandal. This promo is extremely fast paced with all the scenes merging into one. There are scenes from the trial itself being used as flashbacks within this promo. Straight away we can tell that these scenes are flash backs due to the colouring and sound of the scene. The flashback scenes are almost in black and white colour and the sound is almost echoing. At the beginning of the flashback of the trial, slow motion has been used to emphasise the seriousness of the situation. Many of the scenes are close-ups, which is one of the main conventions used within a soap opera, often to show the emphasis of emotion on a characters face. The promotion itself is very short and snappy, creating more of a cliff-hanger for the viewers. Instantly you are drawn into the promo as it begins straight away with the interesting and gripping use of a flashback and slow motion, encouraging you to want to watch more. The producers have purposely shown the flashback of the trial throughout the promo to remind the viewers of the serious and past events that have occurred on the soap opera. |
